Hey guys. So some of you guys know that november is the month of NaNoWriMo. And for those of you who dont know, its basically taking the month of november and trying to write a 5000 word novel. And I'm going to do it. Well....try, at least. I only just found out about this today, but I started a story about 5 days ago and only really got a page done, so I figure that I can use that because it substitutes for yesterday's work.... The only difficulty is the fact that I have no time at all. With band, AP bio, and antioch, i only have maybe a grand total of 7 hours a week for my own time, and now i'm adding nanowrimo into it. Whatever. I'll try.
And while on the topic of books... my update on my process of Catching Fire. (NOTE: spoilers.)
So like I said before, I absolutely loved Hunger Games. LOVED it. I thought it was very fast pace and had the right mix of romance and action. And the ending broke my heart. And so I get Catching Fire and I'm so excited. I want to know what's going to happen. Poor Peeta and what's this about supposed rebellion? So reading Catching Fire, I'm going and going and thinking, 'well, you know..be beginning of books are always a bit slow.' And to tell you the truth, Katniss, who I could really identify with is really starting to piss me off. Our characteristics are still similar, but she needed to pick a freaking boy and be done with it. This whole going back and forth thing was starting to bother me. And then she decides to run away when she meets people heading to district 13. And I'm like, 'YES! Finally a plot line!' but no. No. I was wrong. I'm sure it has to do with the plot later, but I'm not at that point yet. Right after she finds that out, she's confined into the district and Gale (which by the way, I cant get over the name, being as its a freaking girl's name) is injured. And now she has to marry Peeta whether she likes it or not, and there's no escape. And then they take pictures. Blah blah blah. The first half of the book was so boring that if I hadn't noticed it was the whole first half, I probably would have put it down.
And then I could see it coming. I just knew. I didn't want it to, but it happened. Katniss and Peeta are headed back into the arena. How predictable? I'm mixed about this. I don't want this to happen because I really can put myself into the minds and feelings of the characters, and I feel along with them and I just know Peeta isn't going to make it out alive, and also because it doesn't seem to have that strong and origional a story line. On the other hand, I'm glad they're going in the games because its actually just a little bit of excitement. The way its going through with it though, is just so boring. Yeah, I don't want to go through with everything that happened last time again, because the redundancy would be worse, but still.
So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm bored. I'm unimpressed so far. I know it gets good at the end, and I hope its so freaking amazing that it makes up for the first half of the book, because I'm honestly starting to not want to read it so often. I'm going to go through with it, but I'm really just disappointed.
